Growing Attention on Kratom’s Expanding Use in the U.S.
Kratom, a plant native to Southeast Asia, is gaining attention in the United States for its unique dual effects. At low doses, it acts as a mild stimulant, while higher doses can produce opioid-like sensations. According to University of Utah Health, many people use kratom to manage pain or support opioid withdrawal, often consuming it as capsules, teas, or powders. A more concentrated derivative, 7-hydroxymitragynine, has recently emerged, leading medical experts to study its potency and effects more closely. Although kratom remains legal in most states and is regulated under the Kratom Consumer Protection Act in some, researchers continue to explore its potential benefits and risks.
