New Study Challenges Perceptions of Kratom Safety, Industry Group Responds

A recent peer-reviewed study has shed new light on the safety profile of kratom, a plant-based substance that has been the subject of ongoing debate. The American Kratom Association (AKA) has welcomed the findings, which suggest that kratom may have a lower risk profile than previously believed when used responsibly.

Published in the journal Frontiers in Pharmacology, the study examined kratom’s effects on brain function and behavior in animal models. The AKA’s Senior Fellow on Public Policy, Mac Haddow, emphasized the importance of this research in challenging misconceptions about kratom’s safety.

While calling for more comprehensive research, the AKA views this study as a significant step towards evidence-based policies surrounding kratom use and regulation. The organization continues to advocate for responsible use and further scientific investigation into kratom’s potential benefits and risks.
