“Supermotion” Revives Colorado Kratom Regulation Bill

A rarely used legislative maneuver has revived Colorado’s kratom regulation bill after it was nearly sidelined for the 2025 session. Senate Bill 72, which would impose strict requirements on kratom manufacturers-including product registration, annual fees, and detailed labeling-was blocked in committee but brought back to life thanks to a “supermotion” led by Rep. Matt Soper, R-Delta.
The bill, already unanimously approved by the Senate, aims to address rising kratom use in Colorado by enforcing safety standards and penalties for violations. Supporters say these measures are essential for public health, while critics question the rapid legislative turnaround. The bill now heads to the House floor for further debate and a final vote.
