University of Florida Study Suggests Kratom Tea Could Aid Opioid Recovery

A new study from the University of Florida offers promising evidence that kratom tea — derived from the leaves of a Southeast Asian tree — may help ease opioid withdrawal and relieve pain without dangerous side effects. Researchers found that lyophilized kratom tea (LKT) produced significant pain relief in animal models while reducing withdrawal symptoms and avoiding respiratory depression, a major risk with traditional opioids. The findings, published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence, support kratom as a potential tool in addressing opioid dependence. While concerns remain over its safety and abuse potential, the study’s authors say the plant’s traditional preparation appears safe and effective.
