FDA Pilot Study Finds Kratom Leaf “Well Tolerated”

A recent pilot study conducted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that kratom, a controversial botanical, is generally well tolerated in its natural leaf form. The findings, presented at the University of Florida’s International Kratom Symposium, suggest that kratom may not pose the same risks as previously feared by regulators.
The study involved 40 participants who received varying doses of kratom leaf powder, ranging from 1 to 12 grams. Researchers monitored vital signs and adverse effects, with vomiting being the most common side effect at higher doses. Despite this, no significant adverse events were reported.
Lead researcher Dr. Christopher McCurdy emphasized the need for further research to understand kratom’s broader effects and potential risks. The study’s results could pave the way for more comprehensive investigations into kratom’s safety and therapeutic potential.
