In-Depth Analysis Reveals Potency of Kratom Products
In a groundbreaking investigation, the Tampa Bay Times collaborated with University of Florida scientists to test 20 kratom products, unveiling significant insights. The study encompassed a variety of forms including powders, pills, capsules, and liquid shots, focusing on the levels of up to 13 alkaloids, particularly mitragynine, known for its opioid-like qualities.
The findings revealed that mitragynine was the most abundant alkaloid in most products. Speciociliatine, the second-most abundant alkaloid in 15 products, is thought to have more pain-relieving effects than mitragynine.
The study’s detailed approach and findings underscore the need for informed decisions by both consumers and regulators in the burgeoning kratom industry.
