Kratom Use for Pain Management: New Study Reveals Promising Results

A recent study published in the Journal of Pain sheds light on the growing use of kratom for pain self-management in the United States. The research, conducted by Arizona State University, analyzed data from 395 kratom consumers, revealing that nearly half of the participants met criteria for chronic pain. Many reported substantial pain relief and high effectiveness from kratom use.

The study employed a 15-day ecological momentary assessment, finding that pain relief was the primary motivation for daily kratom use, regardless of chronic pain status. Interestingly, recent kratom use was associated with lower current pain levels, with stronger effects observed in those with chronic pain.

While these findings are promising, the researchers emphasize the urgent need for further systematic research on kratom’s long-term implications, efficacy, and safety in pain management to guide clinical practices and regulatory policies.
