The value of the kratom industry is estimated to be between $1.2 and $5 billion. Between 2014 and 2016, approximately 121,254 pounds of kratom entered the US market, and this quantity is expected to increase as more benefits of kratom are revealed. However, concerns have been rife that incidents of high concentrations of nickel, lead, and salmonella contamination could derail the expected growth of the kratom industry.
