Ohio Senator Earns Praise for Kratom Safety Bill

The Global Kratom Coalition (GKC) has commended Ohio Senator Louis Blessing for introducing Senate Bill 299, a pivotal measure aimed at protecting consumers from dangerous synthetic opioids while preserving access to natural kratom. The legislation bans concentrated synthetic 7-OH compounds, which have been linked to addiction and fatalities, and establishes quality standards for kratom products sold in Ohio. GKC scientific advisor Dr. C. Michael White called the bill a science-based approach that distinguishes between safe, natural kratom leaf and harmful lab-made derivatives. The proposal mirrors similar actions at the federal and state levels, including the FDA’s recommendation to control synthetic 7-OH. By advancing SB 299, Ohio could serve as a model for balanced kratom regulation nationwide. Read the full story at WRAL News.
