Minnesota is raising the legal age to buy and possess kratom from 18 to 21 starting Aug. 1, while also increasing penalties for sales and possession by younger users. The change, detailed in a FOX 9 report, comes after the latest legislative session.

Under the new law, selling kratom to anyone under 21 becomes a gross misdemeanor, and possession by someone under 21 is now a misdemeanor. Kratom remains legal in the state.

The move reflects a broader push to restrict intoxicating products that are still widely available in stores.
