Indonesian District Now Exporting 200–300 Tonnes of Kratom a Month as Global Demand Rises

Indonesia’s Kutai Kartanegara district in East Kalimantan is now exporting an estimated 200 to 300 tonnes of kratom every month to buyers in the United States, India, Thailand, and the Czech Republic, according to a report from Indonesia’s state news agency, Antara News. Regional secretary Sunggono said international demand keeps rising, and the district is prioritizing quality improvements and global-standards compliance as volumes grow. Much of the leaf now moves through Tenggarong Seberang, a processing hub increasingly turning raw kratom into higher-value extract before export, which local officials frame as a way to keep more income with Indonesian farmers rather than overseas buyers. Indonesia is by far kratom’s largest source, and remains an unscheduled botanical under U.S. federal law, so the district’s export growth and its stated push toward quality standards carry directly into the American market even as the plant’s legal status keeps being debated state by state.
