Blue Springs Curbs Synthetic 7-OH, Keeps Natural Kratom Legal for Adults

Blue Springs, Missouri has moved to clamp down on synthetic 7-OH products while leaving the door open for adult access to natural kratom. In a vote Monday night, city leaders approved an ordinance that bans high-potency synthetic 7-OH and similar lab-derived formulations but limits kratom itself to customers aged 21 and over.

The decision came after an earlier, broader proposal—one that also targeted natural kratom and various cannabinoids—met resistance from local kratom users and business owners who urged regulation over prohibition. Their testimony helped shift the council toward a middle-ground policy that focuses enforcement on concentrated synthetics while treating traditional kratom as a controlled adult product.
