In 1943, the Thai government passed the Kratom Act 2486 essentially banning the Kratom tree.
Although the effects of Kratom ingestion are comparable to that of Coffee in mildness, Kratom is classified in the same category as Cocaine and Heroin in some countries including Thailand.
