The Drug Enforcement Agency said kratom has become a problem, causing them to change it to a Schedule 1 drug. It shares the list with marijuana, ecstasy and heroin.
U.S. poison centers received 660 calls related to kratom exposure and reported 15 kratom-related deaths from 2014-2016. Risks associated with kratom use include psychosis, seizures and hallucinations.
