Logan Prepares for New Kratom Rules, With Natural Leaf Still Legal

Logan retailers are getting ready for a statewide kratom crackdown that will pull synthetic, extracted and concentrated products from gas stations and convenience stores starting May 6 under Utah’s Senate Bill 45. The law targets high-potency formulations, particularly synthetic versions of the alkaloid 7‑Hydroxymitragynine.

Crucially, the regulations do not apply to natural kratom leaf, which will remain legal for adults 21 and over when sold through licensed specialty stores and smoke shops. Local police say kratom-related incidents are rare and enforcement is a low priority, though officers warn that impaired drivers can still face DUI charges. Shop owners expect some dip in sales but report most customers already prefer pure leaf products.
